Model Overview

The ARCFOX αT is the pioneer mass-production model under BAIC Group's premium new energy brand ARCFOX, officially launched on 24 October 2020. Built at the BAIC BluePark Magna Intelligent Manufacturing Plant—a joint venture established by BAIC BluePark and global automotive supplier Magna—the vehicle is developed and manufactured to stringent international standards. Positioned as a pure electric mid-size SUV, it targeted the sub-RM300,000 segment upon debut, offering a 5-door, 5-seater layout across the entire lineup. At launch in 2020, a total of 5 variants were introduced, with post-subsidy prices ranging from RM241,900 to RM319,900. ARCFOX subsequently rolled out the upgraded "Forest Edition" series on this foundation, as well as the new αT5 sub-line focused on democratising high-end technology. Currently, the core showroom offerings for the αT comprise the "Forest Edition" variants introduced in June 2023, available in 480, 618, 688, and 600D powertrain and range configurations, with prices ranging from approximately RM185,800 to RM280,800, and the range-topping AWD high-performance variant priced at RM280,800. By 2025, the αT5 model expanded further into an accessible price bracket of RM109,800 to RM154,800, forming an integral part of ARCFOX’s two-pronged "premium + mainstream" strategy.
Design Language
Penned under the direction of legendary Italian automotive designer Walter de Silva, the αT embodies a "borderless" design philosophy. The front fascia features sharp character lines converging at the centre to create a sporty "X" motif, paired with a fully closed-off grille that highlights its all-electric identity. Down the sides, a continuous shoulder line and floating roof design are complemented by flush pop-out door handles and 20-inch petal-style alloy wheels, seamlessly blending aesthetics with aerodynamic efficiency; round the back, trendy full-width LED taillights and a lower silver skid plate accentuate its rugged SUV stance. Overall dimensions measure 4,788 mm in length, 1,940 mm in width, and 1,683 mm in height, riding on an expansive 2,915 mm wheelbase. This wide-track, long-wheelbase packaging translates into generous cabin width and rear legroom, while an ultra-low drag coefficient of Cd 0.271 provides an efficient foundation for driving range. Inside, the αT adopts a T-shaped dashboard layout generously trimmed in premium leather and Alcantara suede, complemented by 64-colour ambient lighting to deliver a cabin ambience on par with luxury marques.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the skin, the αT is offered in single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations depending on the variant. The 2WD version is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 160 kW to 175 kW and a peak torque of around 360 Nm; the AWD "600D" variant adopts a dual-motor front-and-rear layout, pushing out a combined output of 320 kW (around 435 PS) and 720 Nm of torque. The AWD model despatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in an official 4.6 seconds, delivering acceleration figures comparable to million-Ringgit high-performance SUVs. Energy is stored in a ternary lithium-ion battery pack supplied by SK On, with capacities ranging from 67 kWh to 93.6 kWh, offering different range options: an early entry-level 480 km (NEDC) variant, a mainstream 653 km (NEDC) long-range variant, and an AWD variant rated at 600 km (CLTC). The battery achieves an energy density of up to 191.72 Wh/kg, with power consumption hovering around 17.3 kWh per 100 km. DC fast charging takes the battery from 30% to 80% in approximately 0.55 hours, while AC slow charging requires about 7.6 hours. The 2023 "Forest Edition" lineup revised its CLTC range ratings into four tiers—480 km, 618 km, 688 km, and 600 km—with the 2WD long-range variant topping out at an impressive 688 km.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinning the αT is a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. The rear multi-link design optimises tyre contact on uneven roads, striking an ideal balance between cornering composure (especially on dual-motor models with the electric AWD system) and ride comfort. The AWD variant features dual-motor electric all-wheel drive with independent front-to-rear torque distribution and millisecond-level response, enhancing overall vehicle stability across slippery surfaces, high-speed cornering, and light off-road trails. Steering is handled by an electric power steering (EPS) system, while braking is managed by four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with an electronic parking brake (EPB), riding on 245/45 R20 tyres. Drivers can also switch between Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Snow driving modes, alongside three-stage adjustable regenerative braking to suit varying driving preferences for efficiency or spirited performance.
Cabin and Equipment
Cockpit digitalisation is one of the standout highlights of the αT. The entire lineup comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, complemented by a massive 20.3-inch ultra-wide 4K display (3840×720 resolution) spanning across the dashboard, which forms a cohesive triple-screen setup with the 10.1-inch floating climate control touchscreen below. Running on Harman's intelligent cockpit architecture, the infotainment system supports multi-screen interaction, intelligent voice control, Baidu CarLife smartphone integration, online navigation, 4G telematics, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. For creature comforts, the front seats feature multi-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and memory settings; higher-spec models add luxury amenities such as a 12-speaker Infinity premium sound system, panoramic sunroof, powered hands-free tailgate, NAPPA leather seats, wireless smartphone charging, multi-zone automatic climate control, and an on-board air purification system, reflecting its flagship positioning in both fitment and finish.
Safety and Driver Assistance
On the active and passive safety front, the αT benefits from Magna's world-class manufacturing standards and a high-rigidity cage body structure. The range comes standard with 6 airbags (front driver/passenger, front side, and full-length curtain airbags), along with essential passive safety features like a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), seatbelt reminders, and rear ISOFIX child seat anchor points. Active safety across the range includes the Bosch 9.3 Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), ABS, Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist. Its Level 2 intelligent driving assistance suite integrates full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and a 360-degree panoramic camera system. On the build quality side, the BAIC BluePark Magna plant strictly adheres to Magna's European manufacturing standards, enforcing consistent structural integrity throughout welding, paintwork, and final assembly.
Market Performance and Reception
As the pioneer model spearheading BAIC Group's premium electrification push, the αT holds significant strategic importance. In its initial market run, monthly sales fluctuated between several hundred and around a thousand units, representing a modest footprint in the high-end pure electric SUV segment. Direct competitors with comparable positioning included the contemporary NIO ES6, BYD Tang EV, and the later locally assembled Tesla Model Y.
